Take out circle interchange phone bad nuts
By Alhaji Alhasan Abdulai
Construction work on the Kwame Nkrumah three tier interchange which is meant to ease vehicular movements in Accra is progressing steadily. What is of interest is that the imposing project is fast attracting various activities including businesses of all kinds and visitors from the regions and tourists. That is good as many people young and old men and women have found for themselves profitable ventures in shops and on table tops, selling electronic gadgets such as telephones, radios and computers. Among the traders in this area are large numbers of young men from Ghana and other neighboring nations who are dealing in telephone handsets. From morning till day break these people are seen all over circle holding in their hands telephones they offer for sale, some of which seem very sophisticated. The modus operandi of some of these people is to defraud unsuspecting men and women by offering for sale stolen phones or soaps or wooden carvings that are wrapped neatly as phones. My advice to all people wishing to buy phones of all kinds is that they must ignore those “telephone bomb wielding” young men some of who realy display sophisticated phones around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle especially those close to the new interchange under construction. These people have the right to perform their duties being citizens with the right to free movement and to seek legitimate means of livelihood. However because a number of people have been complaining daily of criminal activities of some of them the police has a duty to move in to save the situation. I don’t need to tell the new Inspector General of Police what to do. Since the police service has succeeded so far in its visibility, surveillance and intelligence gathering programs all over Ghana , the IGP must turn his attention on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle. There is no need to harass the young men indiscriminately. However a good move by the police periodically would lead to the discovery of the bad nuts among the phone traders who parade the streets shoulders at circle to defraud people. This way only the bad ones could be routed out of the place to make way for legitimate businesses to thrive and to attract tourists.
