As part of its poverty alleviation program, the Islamic Council for Development and Humanitarian Services (ICODEHS) has donated five LG deep freezers to five women at the headquarters of the council in Accra. The women are madam Georgina, Hajia Halima, Hajia Zurfau, Madam Serena and madam Salima. They were selected from a number of women for their hard work as traders. They are required to use the items in their trading activities to sell sachet water, minerals among other items to raise money to support their families that include their children, husbands and parents. As part of the program, hundreds of women traders in less developed parts of Ghana have been granted interest free loans by ICODEHS to support them in their trading businesses. In his address, the chairman of ICODEHS Sheikh Mustapha Ibrahim congratulated the women for being chosen to take home the fridges and advised them to take good care of them to last long adding that a new set of women would be selected in the near future to be given more fridges. Apart from donating fridges to women, ICODEHS also commissioned a school block and a mosque at Bolga Samze Senior High School in the Upper East Region. That apart a borehole was also commissioned at Alajo in the Greater Accra Region. So far the Islamic Council has built hundreds of school blocks, dug many wells and boreholes, built clinics and mosques in all parts of Ghana including some nations of Africa with funds from Kuwait, United Arab Emirates Saudi Arabia among other nations.
