DCOP Kofi Boakye Closes down Jamase Police Station
The Ashanti Regional Police commander DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye has closed down the Jamase Police Station in the Kwabere East District of Ashanti Region after community members attacked the police
Irate residents of the area went on rampage venting their spleen on police officers on duty at the station after the police restrained tried restraining them from lynching a suspected murderer alleged to have murdered a family of three.
Addressing journalists and senior police officers in Kumasi, the Ashanti Police Chief said, he will only open the station for operations if the community members fix all the vandalized items at the police station caused by their actions.
He also warned that the police will no longer countenance any attacks by angry mob on any of its service stations in the region.
“People in Jamasi will be without a police station until they repair all the things they destroyed during the raid. People who go round with cutlasses axes and others and attack the police will no longer be countenanced”, he said.
DCOP Kofi Boakye also empathized with the family of the tutor of the Asante Mampong Nursing and Midwifery College and his brother who were mistakenly shot and killed by armed police on patrol duties in the area.
To this end, he charged his district commanders to ensure that personnel act with circumspection to prevent such needless accidents.
